WALVIS BAY TRIP

 

The Walvis Bay trip is a mileage builder, lasting approximately 30 days on shore, covering the route from Cape Town to Walvis Bay and back. Each student is required to skipper the vessel for at least three passages and collectively log 2 500 miles. 

The first week of the designated for preparation, which includes but is not limited to:

  • Signing out of the country at customs.
  • Provisioning the boat with essentials such as fuel, spare lines and sails.
  • Victualing groceries and spare water for the journey ahead.

Duration: 5-6 Weeks – on shore accommodation and meals are included.

Prerequisite: RYA Day Skipper ticket.

This includes

  • Navigation and passage planning
  • Offshore and heavy weather sailing
  • Boat handling and seamanship 
  • Night sailing and watchkeeping 
  • Safety and emergency procedures
  • Crew management and teamwork 
  • Weather forecasting and adaption
  • 2 nights accommodation in Walvis Bay
  • One fun group activity

The trip is focused at aiding RYA Yachtmaster Offshore student with the necessary miles and preparing them for their exam.
