This adventure sailing trip offers hands-on experience in planning and executing a major ocean crossing. Led by an experienced skipper and first mate, it goes beyond sailing, providing opportunities for exploration and skills-building.
Starting in Cape Town with a “Prep Week” at the Royal Cape Yacht Club, participants will learn essential ocean voyaging skills before sailing up the African coast to Lüderitz, Namibia. After a short stay exploring Lüderitz and Kolmanskop, the journey continues across the South Atlantic to St Helena Island, where five days of exploring with bed and breakfast are included.
From St Helena, the route heads wet into the South Atlantic before turning south towards Tristan da Cunha, navigating remote waters with dynamic weather and challenging seas – ideal for celestial navigation practice. Covering approximately 4 500 nautical miles over 48 days, the voyage serves as excellent preparation for those working towards RYA qualifications or aspiring to ocean-level sailing.
