Maintenance

The aim of the course is to give an awareness of the main systems of a marine diesel engine and the ability to take simple measures to prevent mechanical breakdown at sea and rectify defects which do not require workshop support.

Pre-course requirements: None

Duration: 1 day starting at 8am.

Venue: Classroom at Royal Cape Yacht Club, Cape Town

Course Content includes:

  • The Four-stroke Cycle
  • The Fuel System
  • The Cooling System
  • The Air Systems
  • Engine Electrical Systems
  • Spares and Tool Requirements
  • The Importance of Winterisation and Servicing
  • Fault Finding

Course Fees Includes:

  • Diesel course practical work book
  • Course completion certificate
  • Writing book and pen

Course Fees Excludes:

  • Accommodation and meals for shore-based courses, time off and any time in Cape Town apart from when on board for a practical course.
  • R100 (deposit) required for temporary membership. Royal Cape Yacht Club will issue you with a temporary access card for your time with us and ask for a deposit of R100. This will be returned to you once the card is returned to Royal Cape Yacht Club on your last day.
