RYA Coastal Skipper

Practical

The aim of the course is to teach the skills and techniques required to skipper a cruising yacht (for the Sail course) or motor cruiser (for the Motor course), of seven metres LWL to 15 metres LOA, safely on coastal and offshore passages by day and night. Students will gain practice in planning and skippering longer passages with a significant number of night hours where watch-keeping rotas become relevant.

Upon successful completion of this course, you will receive a RYA Coastal Skipper Practical course completion certificate.

Put your theoretical knowledge from the Coastal/ Offshore Theory certification into practice as you take to the seas and improve your skippering and navigational skills. While living aboard the yacht for six days, you’ll get a chance to practice your seamanship, boat handling, heavy weather tactics, night sailing, coastal navigation, seamanship and leadership skills.
